If someone asks for a “Toyota RAV4 projector bracket,” the first question should not be:
“Which year is the car?”
A better question is:
“Which headlight is actually on the car?”
That difference matters.
We currently have retrofit references for several RAV4 headlight configurations from 2016 through 2026, and they do not use the same projector, bracket, wiring or internal layout.
Some use a single projector. Some use two compact projectors. Some require a decoder. Some use a 3-inch square projector. One 2026 reference is shared with the Toyota Wildlander.
So before ordering parts, identify the headlight first.

Why the Vehicle Year Is Only the Starting Point
The model year is useful because it narrows the search.
But it does not confirm everything.
A headlight can vary because of:
- Equipment level
- Market
- LED or matrix configuration
- Internal carrier design
- Driver or PCB layout
- Previous repair or modification
This becomes obvious when comparing actual RAV4 retrofit cases.
2016–2019 RAV4 LED Headlight
The documented 2016–2019 RAV4 application uses an OEM LED headlight with a hot-seal housing and a vehicle-specific steel bracket.
The original decorative cover is retained after controlled trimming, and rear projector clearance has to be checked carefully.
This reference does not automatically cover halogen, HID or other internal layouts.

2020 RAV4 High-Spec LED Headlight
The 2020 high-spec LED case is different again.
Here, the headlight uses an OEM Denso LED driver, and the retrofit reference replaces that driver with a compatible decoder interface.
So compatibility is not only mechanical.
The original driver, connector and pinout also need to be identified before the new projector system is connected.

Projector Size Is Not Enough
One of the most common mistakes is to assume that projector size alone determines fitment.
It does not.
For example:
- One RAV4 application may use a 3-inch square projector.
- Another may use two compact 1.5–1.8-inch projectors.
- Another may require a specific bracket direction or front-mount design.
The projector body, mounting holes and rear depth are just as important as the lens diameter.
A projector can be the correct nominal size and still be the wrong part for the bracket.
2023 Matrix and 2023–2024 Hella-Style Headlights Are Not the Same Retrofit
This is a good example of why headlight identification matters.
The documented 2023 RAV4 Matrix retrofit uses two compact bi-beam projectors per headlight, with a dual-projector bracket and decoder interface.
That is a very different layout from the 2023–2024 RAV4 Hella-style bracket reference, which is designed for a 3-inch square projector mounted from the front.

These two cases are a useful reminder:
Do not select a bracket only because the vehicle is a 2023 or 2024 RAV4.
Check the internal headlight layout first.

Check the Bracket Direction
Some vehicle-specific brackets are not symmetrical.
This is particularly important on the 2023–2024 Hella-style RAV4 reference.
The passenger-side components and bracket bends need to face the correct direction. Reversing a side-specific part can affect projector position and adjustment.
The same basic principle applies to other retrofit brackets:
Before installation, compare the left and right components and make sure the bracket orientation matches the reference.
Do not force a bracket into position simply because the mounting holes appear close.
Wiring Can Change the Retrofit Completely
Mechanical fitment is only half of the job.
The electrical side can be very different between RAV4 headlight versions.
The 2020 high-spec LED case includes an OEM Denso driver and decoder interface.
The 2023 Matrix case also uses a decoder and requires power, ground and signal verification.
The 2026 RAV4/Wildlander reference goes a step further and shows an OEM PCB pinout for the replacement projector connection.
So before ordering or wiring anything, check:
- Driver type
- Connector
- PCB
- Low-beam circuit
- High-beam circuit
- Signal wiring
- Polarity
Do not rely only on wire colors.
The 2026 RAV4 / Wildlander Case Shows Why Shared Applications Still Need Verification
The documented 2026 reference covers a shared RAV4 / Wildlander headlight platform and uses a 3-inch square projector bracket.
But even in a shared application, the actual headlight label and carrier should still be checked.
The reference also includes:
- Passenger-side bracket direction
- OEM PCB terminals
- Soft butyl sealant
- DRL clearance
- Projector shroud interference checks

A shared bracket concept does not mean every RAV4 or Wildlander headlight is automatically identical.
What Should a Retrofit Shop Send Before Ordering?
For most RAV4 projector bracket inquiries, these photos are enough to start:
- Vehicle model and year
- Front view of the headlight
- Rear housing
- Headlight label
- Original projector
- Internal mounting carrier
- Driver, PCB or connector
- The projector you plan to use
If the headlight has already been opened, a clear photo of the mounting area is especially useful.
A few good photos usually save more time than several messages describing the headlight.
Quick RAV4 Compatibility Reference
| RAV4 Reference | Main Compatibility Check |
|---|---|
| 2016–2019 LED | Hot-seal housing, steel bracket, carrier and rear clearance |
| 2020 High-Spec LED | Denso driver, decoder interface and connector pinout |
| 2023 Matrix | Dual 1.5–1.8" bi-beam projectors and matrix bracket |
| 2023–2024 Hella | 3-inch square projector and bracket direction |
| 2026 RAV4 / Wildlander | Shared bracket, OEM PCB and DRL clearance |
These are installation references for the configurations shown, not a claim that every RAV4 from those years uses the same headlight.
Verify First, Order Second
For retrofit shops and distributors, compatibility problems usually become expensive after the headlight has already been opened.
That is why we prefer a simple rule:
Verify the headlight first. Choose the bracket and projector second.
If you are working on a Toyota RAV4, compare the headlight with the relevant installation reference above.
If the structure is different, send the headlight label, internal carrier and projector photos before ordering parts.
