One Prado LC250, Three Different Headlights

A customer says:

“I have a 2024 Prado LC250. Which retrofit kit do I need?”

That sounds like enough information.

It isn't.

From the Prado LC250 headlights we have documented, the same vehicle generation can appear with very different headlamp structures. We currently have retrofit references for an LED reflector-bowl headlamp, a high-spec square headlamp, and a round-headlamp configuration.

They do not use the same projector count, bracket design or internal preparation.

That makes the LC250 a useful example of why retrofit parts should be matched to the actual headlight, not simply the vehicle name.

Toyota Prado LC250 different headlight configurations

Start With the Headlight You Actually Have

“2024 Prado LC250” gets us to the right vehicle generation, but it does not finish the compatibility check.

Before discussing a bracket or projector kit, we want to identify things such as:

  • exterior headlight style;
  • headlight label;
  • internal reflector or projector arrangement;
  • rear housing;
  • adjuster or adaptive components;
  • connectors;
  • available rear clearance.

This matters because the three documented LC250 applications below are structurally different.

They should not be treated as three upgrade packages that can simply be selected according to preference.

The original headlight determines which retrofit route applies.

LED Reflector-Bowl Headlamp: Four Compact Matrix Projectors

The first configuration is the 2024 LC250 LED reflector-bowl headlamp.

In our 2024 Prado LC250 LED reflector-bowl matrix retrofit case, the original reflector-bowl assembly is removed and replaced with a four-projector matrix system.

The documented arrangement uses:

  • four projectors in the 1.5–1.8 inch format;
  • two matched projector pairs;
  • a main support bracket;
  • base plates;
  • upper and lower trim components;
  • restoration of the original DRL.

The internal carrier requires controlled trimming at specific ribs before the base plate and main bracket are installed. The trim panels and daytime running light are then restored after the new matrix system is secured.

So the defining feature here is not simply “four projectors.”

It is a four-projector system designed around the reflector-bowl headlamp architecture.

That distinction matters when comparing it with the next LC250.

High-Spec Square Headlamp: Three Projectors Instead of Four

The high-spec square headlamp uses a different internal layout.

The 2024 Prado LC250 high-spec square-headlamp matrix retrofit uses a three-projector matrix carrier.

One of the most important details is the outer projector.

It requires a short-tail body because rear housing clearance is limited in that position.

The retrofit also works with original adaptive components rather than simply removing everything inside the lamp. The documented process includes transferring the OEM adaptive motor with its spacer and correct pushrod orientation, then restoring the original shroud and white trim after installation.

This creates a very different installation logic:

Reflector-bowl version: four compact matrix projectors.

High-spec square version: three projectors with an outer short-tail requirement and retained adaptive components.

Neither description can safely be applied to the other headlight.

Round Headlamp: A Different Bracket System Again

Then there is the 2024–2025 LC250 round-headlamp configuration.

Its retrofit does not use the same four-projector reflector-bowl structure or the same three-projector high-spec square carrier.

The 2024–2025 Prado LC250 round-headlamp projector retrofit uses application-specific left- and right-side bracket components.

Rear housing clearance also needs attention, and part of the DRL trim requires controlled modification. A compatible DRL shroud is then used as part of the final assembly.

This is its own headlamp configuration and should be identified as such before parts are selected.

In other words, seeing “LC250” on the inquiry does not tell us which of these three internal layouts is in front of the installer.

The Difference Is Bigger Than Projector Count

It would be easy to summarize the three headlights as:

  • four projectors;
  • three projectors;
  • another projector bracket.

That misses the more useful point.

What really changes is the headlight architecture around the projector.

LC250 Headlight Documented Retrofit Structure Important Detail
LED reflector bowl Four-projector matrix system Reflector bowl removed, base plates and controlled trimming required
High-spec square Three-projector matrix carrier OEM adaptive components retained; short-tail outer projector required
Round headlamp Side-specific projector brackets Rear clearance and DRL trim/shroud work required

That is why projector quantity alone is not a useful way to order a complete retrofit solution.

Why Ordering by Model Year Can Go Wrong

Imagine three customers all send the same message:

“2024 Toyota Prado LC250. Need projector retrofit kit.”

Without photos, these could refer to very different headlights.

If a reflector-bowl kit is supplied for a square headlamp, the internal carrier and mounting architecture will not match.

If a shop assumes the three-projector square layout applies to the reflector-bowl lamp, the projector count and internal structure are already wrong.

And the round-headlamp version introduces its own bracket orientation, rear clearance and DRL-related work.

The problem is not that one kit is “better.”

It is that they are intended for different original headlights.

What We Want to See Before Confirming Parts

For retrofit shops and distributors, the fastest approach is usually to send clear headlight information before ordering.

For an LC250, useful photos include:

  • vehicle year;
  • headlight label;
  • full front view of the headlamp;
  • rear housing;
  • connector area;
  • internal carrier if the lamp has already been opened;
  • original reflector or projector structure;
  • adjustment or adaptive components.

For the reflector-bowl configuration, photos of the reflector assembly help confirm the application.

For the high-spec square headlamp, the adaptive components and rear layout matter.

For the round version, bracket orientation, housing clearance and surrounding DRL structure become relevant.

A few useful photos are normally much more reliable than trying to identify the kit from “2024 Prado” alone.

Same LC250, Different Retrofit Logic

The Prado LC250 is a good example of how modern headlight retrofit work has become increasingly vehicle- and lamp-specific.

One LC250 configuration replaces an LED reflector-bowl system with four compact matrix projectors.

Another uses a three-projector carrier while retaining adaptive components.

The round-headlamp version uses its own side-specific bracket arrangement and requires different clearance and DRL preparation.

So when an LC250 inquiry arrives, the first question should not be:

“Which projector would you like?”

A better question is:

“Which LC250 headlight do you have?”

Once that is confirmed, the correct bracket, projector layout and installation reference become much easier to match.
