A 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 mid/low-spec headlight does not have to be built around only one matrix projector layout.
In the retrofit reference we have documented, the same application-specific carrier supports two configurations:
- five Bi-LED projectors;
- three Bi-LED projectors plus two independent high beams.
That detail matters.
Calling this simply a “five-projector retrofit” leaves out half of the documented solution. The bracket system is better understood as a configurable matrix carrier built around the pictured 2022 LC300 mid/low-spec headlamp.
The choice of projector layout comes after the headlight itself has been correctly identified.

Start With the Mid/Low-Spec Headlight
The documented application is specifically for the pictured 2022 LC300 mid/low-spec headlamp configuration.
It should not be confused with the LC300 high-spec headlight, which uses a different internal projector carrier and a different retrofit structure.
In the 2022 LC300 mid/low-spec matrix retrofit case, the supplied system includes:
- a main carrier;
- projector mounting brackets;
- metal shroud panels;
- lower trim panels;
- spacers;
- fasteners;
- hardware for the selected projector arrangement.
The OEM reflector-bowl assembly is removed before the new matrix carrier is installed.
So this is not a simple replacement of one projector inside the original reflector structure.
The carrier becomes the new internal foundation.
Option A: Five Bi-LED Projectors
The first documented layout uses five Bi-LED projector units.
All five positions are built around Bi-LED projectors capable of providing the functions required by the configured system.
This creates a visually consistent multi-projector arrangement across the carrier.
For a retrofit shop, however, “five projectors” should not be treated as the complete compatibility specification.
The projector bodies still need to match:
- carrier dimensions;
- mounting positions;
- available internal space;
- surrounding trim panels;
- rear housing clearance.
The bracket and trim system were developed around the documented LC300 application, not around every compact projector on the market.
Option B: Three Bi-LED Projectors Plus Two Independent High Beams
The second documented option changes the function of two positions.
Instead of five Bi-LED units, the arrangement uses:
- three Bi-LED projectors;
- two independent high-beam units.
This is the 3+2 layout.
Mechanically, both options use the same overall retrofit concept, but the projector functions are different.
That means the installer needs to know which layout is being built before completing the wiring and final assembly.
This is why the full LC300 mid/low-spec installation reference describes both configurations rather than presenting one as the universal setup.
The Reflector Bowl Comes Out in Both Layouts
Whichever projector arrangement is selected, the original reflector-bowl assembly is removed.
This exposes the main mounting area for the new carrier.
The retrofit therefore changes the internal architecture of the headlamp rather than trying to attach new projectors directly to the OEM reflector bowl.
Once the original assembly is removed, the complete matrix bracket is positioned in the rear housing and the mounting points are checked before the trim is restored.
That mechanical foundation is common to both documented layouts.
The difference is what gets installed on the carrier.
Small Spacer Details Matter
One easy detail to overlook is the black plastic spacer system.
The case reference calls for spacers at specific mounting points to raise and align the projector assembly.
One shaped plastic block also has a defined orientation and must not be installed upside down.
This may sound minor, but spacer height and orientation affect the position of the carrier inside the headlight.
If the bracket sits at the wrong height or angle, that can affect:
- projector alignment;
- trim-panel clearance;
- fit inside the housing;
- final beam positioning.
A retrofit kit is not just the large metal bracket. Small positioning components are part of the fitment system too.

Four Beam Signal Wires Need to Be Confirmed
The electrical side also needs to be treated as part of the retrofit system.
The documented reference identifies four signal wires:
- low-beam positive;
- low-beam negative;
- high-beam positive;
- high-beam negative.
The case provides source wire colors for the pictured configuration, but the circuits should still be verified on the actual vehicle before connection.
This becomes especially important when choosing between the five-Bi-LED and 3+2 configurations.
The projector functions are not identical, so the shop should understand how the selected layout will use the available low- and high-beam signals.
Do not assume wire function from color alone if the lamp has been repaired, modified or comes from another regional specification.
The Trim Panels Finish the New Internal Layout
Once the carrier and selected projector arrangement are installed, the supplied trim panels restore the finished appearance around the matrix array.
The documented sequence includes:
- lower small trim;
- larger lower trim panel;
- metal shroud panels.
These parts need to be positioned correctly around the projector row before the front cover is resealed.
This is another reason to test the complete assembly while the headlight is still open.
The shop should check:
- projector alignment;
- low-beam operation;
- high-beam operation;
- trim clearance;
- spacer position;
- bracket security.
Only after those checks should the lamp be closed.
Five Bi-LED or 3+2 Is Not a High-Spec vs Low-Spec Choice
There is an important distinction here.
The two projector layouts described in this article both belong to the documented mid/low-spec LC300 headlight retrofit system.
They should not be confused with the separate LC300 high-spec headlight.
The 2022 LC300 high-spec matrix retrofit uses its own three-projector carrier and different mounting details.
So there are really two separate decisions:
- Which LC300 headlight do you have?
- If it is the documented mid/low-spec version, which supported projector layout are you building?
The first question determines the retrofit system.
The second determines how that system is configured.
What to Confirm Before Ordering
For a 2022 LC300 mid/low-spec retrofit, useful verification information includes:
- headlamp label;
- front and rear photos;
- original reflector-bowl assembly;
- internal mounting area;
- connector and wiring;
- projector dimensions;
- intended five-projector or 3+2 layout.
The documented reference does not automatically confirm:
- high-spec LC300 headlights;
- other model years;
- other regional housings;
- previously modified lamps;
- unverified projector body sizes.
For those reasons, the actual headlight should always be checked before the matrix kit is supplied.
One Carrier, Two Documented Layouts
The most useful part of this LC300 case is not simply that it can hold several projectors.
It is that the mid/low-spec retrofit system supports two documented ways to build the matrix array.
One uses five Bi-LED projectors.
The other combines three Bi-LED projectors with two independent high beams.
Both rely on the same basic principles:
remove the original reflector-bowl structure, install the dedicated carrier, position the spacers correctly, verify the beam signals and restore the trim around the finished array.
For retrofit shops and distributors, the correct sequence is simple:
confirm the mid/low-spec headlight first, then confirm which projector layout the customer actually needs.
